The pilot project "Development of modern planning tools in North Region using GIS" (GIS - Geospatial Information System) project concept developed and proposed by the North Regional Development Agency (RDA North) will be supported from the sources from the Czech Development Agency. In this respect, the Czech Republic will provide a grant of 537 326.80 Euros.

North RDA director, Ion Bodrug, and the director of Czech Development Agency, Michael Kaplan, discussed this topic yesterday at a meeting at the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction.

In 2013, the pilot project mentioned was improved in the Twinning project "Capacity building in regional development in Moldova", with the support of French and Romanian advisory and methodological experts.

"This pilot project is another step that will bring us closer to EU standards. We can say that with the implementation of this pilot project North RDA will move to a higher level of project implementation. The pilot project of developing modern planning tools using geospatial data system is a project in the full sense of the word. Results will trigger a new type of strategic planning", says RDA North Director, Ion Bodrug.

The overall objective is to create connections between the RDA and the 11 North districts and Balti in Northern Region, and respectively with the RDA South and the 8 districts of the South Development Region. Connections will be made to exchange data and spatial planning, facilitating access of local authorities, potential investors and the general public to data and statistical information in the North and South development regions.

The complex GIS platform is a modern and efficient mechanism in facilitating decisions on regional development, attracting investment, realizing the tourism potential of the regions and for the development of socio-economic analysis.

The pilot project will be implemented during the period of 2014-1016, the North and South Development Regions with the possibility of extending it into the Central Development Region. Pilot Project partners are developed by RDA North and RDA South and level II local governments in the north and south regions.

Additionally, it should be noted that at the meeting yesterday the Czech Development Agency Director Michael Kaplan and the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction Liviu Oboroc have identified prospects of bilateral cooperation in regional development for the years 2014 -2015 and set priorities for implementation of development projects in the North and South regions.
