GIZ delegation visits Rîșcani

Râșcani, November 20, 2012. A delegation from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) headed by Dr. Leo Kreuz, Head of the Department for Eastern Europe at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Sonja Schuler, Desk Officer by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) visited the district Râșcani. The visit was related to the Moldovan-German government negotiations on financial and technical assistance funds. The event was attended by the Director General for the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Valerian Bânzaru, and North Regional Development Agency Director, Ion Bodrug.

On this occasion, the GIZ delegation included Holger Neuweger, GIZ Country Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova and Philipp Johannsen, GIZ Representative and Project Manager. They met with the mayor of Costești, Ivan Pleșca, after which they visited the village of Duruitoarea Veche where the RDA North, with financial support from GIZ, implemented the project "Provision of water and sewerage services for the residents of Duruitoarea Veche, Costești in the district of Râșcani". The agenda for the Râșcani visit also included a meeting with the district administration, the administration of North RDA, the service provider "Apă-Canal", and citizens of Costești.  There was also a visit to the pumping station and the treatment plant, which will be renovated.

The Moldovan-German negotiations will take place on November 22, and on the same day, the delegation will also meet with the Minister of the Regional Development and Construction, Marcel Răducan.

The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) implements development projects on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), other Federal Ministries as well as other institutions and organizations.

Promoting cooperation between the German Government and the Government of Moldova began in 1994. Since then, a number of major development projects have been implemented, many of which aim to facilitate the transition from a planned economy to market economy.

Currently, GIZ is implementing 7 projects in Moldova: 1) Modernization of the Moldovan Agricultural Sector, 2) Support for the reform of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the police, and for anti-corruption and data protection measures (EU), 3)Modernization of municipal services, 4)Economic policy advice, 5) Advisory services for the Moldovan privatization agency (BMF), 6) Practice-oriented vocational training, 7) Develop regional capacity for cross-border cooperation in Moldova.
